Friday's Finds: Funny Bunnies

This week's etsy finds are inspired by the funny little bunnies, one of K's favorite videos, a classic disney animated short that is part of the silly symphonies series. I remember watching episodes of the silly symphonies on VHS growing up, and was thrilled to find some of my favorite ones on youtube. They were the best, and we'd watch the same tape over, and over and over.

The Story of Stuff

Everyone needs to spend 20 minutes and watch this old but good video, the story of stuff. It's a sobering reminder about how we've become such an unsustainable, and consuming society, and the real cost of the stuff we buy. It might even change the way you think about what you want, what you need, and how you choose to spend your money. Reinforces the idea of buying vintage, handmade & local.

Here are some local designers below who fit the bill, reusing vintage materials in their creations.

Patsy in Light Blue Floral $65

KAYO Asymmetrical Wrap-Vest $85

Upcycled Reversible Leather Obi Belt $65

:::: Eco Living ::::

We are so glad that Kate of Orchard Farm sought us out for a trade; a woolly helm for her delicious products. We chose some soaps, lip balm, and some lotion bars, all of which are absolutely delightful to use. We ended up going back for some more, and more, and will be putting in another order very shortly.

Orchard Farm's organic farm is located in northern Idaho, where they believing in working & living sustainably. They grow the food they eat and create all natural products that have ingredients that are fair traded or organic, or grown on their very own farm. They create a variety of products ranging from soaps, lotion bars, soy candles, lip balm, and loose leaf tea to name a few.

My favorite product thus far is the peppermint lotion bar. It melts in your hands and leaves them moist (not greasy), with the faint aroma of invigorating pure peppermint oil. This winter has be especially dry and has left me with chapped, and cracked hands. Kate's lotion bar has saved my hands and have even healed the one crack that wouldn't stop bleeding. Every friend or family that has so much as touched my bar has needed to place an order for one (or two) for themselves (hence the next order very shortly).

I can't say enough of her products, you simply have to feel them, and use them to appreciate the love & artistry of them. They are good for you, good for the earth, and of course, it is always great to support handmade.

Friday's Finds: Spring Hats!

It's no surprise that I love hats. Knitting hats, crocheting hats, but I also love hats that are pieced and sewn together (something that I do not have the patience, nor talent to do).  Here are just a few of my favorites, and perfect for the, a-hem, upcoming spring weather.

Worthy Good's organic cotton flat cap $32
Conciously Altered's wrap cap visor scarf $40

Knittles Video

We recently started a youtube channel thanks to some pumped up motivation from our father in law who filmed our work at Calgary Art Market in November. I know - long time ago, but we are just finally getting some breathing space and getting into online world again with blogs, twitter posts, photos, videos and hopefully more.

ETSY LOVE!!!

I'm always in love with etsy, but today is a special day. A day that we were madly preparing for during xmas break, and a day that we're super excited about.

We are featured seller today, a huge honor, and something we've been dreaming about. This opportunity also pushed us to make some new designs, and is probably the last hurrah until spring rears its beautiful head.

Enjoy!

Introducing Knit Armour Collection - Alberta Fashion Week 2009

Knittles has embarked a new adventure, an official foray into the fashion scene of Calgary. We showed our very first runway collection for Alberta Fashion Week, this Wednesday, October 7th at Seven Lounge.

We had been busy creating our line of wearable accessories and clothing to combat the harsh Calgarian winters. Inspired by the cold urban environment and the process of building, this line of Knit Armour has elements of deconstruction, glimpses of vibrant colours amidst a sea of cold neutrals, and small sanctuaries of natural elements symbolized by handcrafted wood & ceramic buttons.

The reception we received for our collection was both flattering, and heartwarming. Many thanks to Alberta Fashion Week for allowing us to share our work to the budding fashion community of Calgary.

First Mediterranean Festival in Koper - Knitwear Designer Igor Galas Wins

I wish their main page was in English, but oh well. I love pictures too. It is so cool to see Knitwear to gain more and more popularity. Igor Galas, a Croatian Knitwear designer won the prize for the best collection.
His collection presents the unique style, wearable designs (I love Sandra but not sure where I'd wear her stuff) and such obvious hard work. Couldn't find his website, unfortunately, but found some cool video from Fashion Academy Award.
